I've Got Your RSS Hanging
Most people who know me know that I hate change. I grew up in a simpler time. A time when HTML was king shit and there was no Ajax or CSS and Java was just hippie slang for coffee. Life was easy going back in the golden days of web 1.0. Then things got complicated. Fuck that. My website is a tribute to the days of my youth. A tribute to a time when most people thought you couldn't access the internet without AOL. Back when streaming video consisted of half second bursts of still images. It is for this reason that my page remains simple. Yet for some reason I am getting more and more requests by lazy retards for an RSS feed. Perhaps if I were some large news site with multiple updates an hour that might be feasible. But I am a small website that updates maybe once a week. How lazy do you have to be to find checking my website burdensome? Well, today is your lucky day. I have put together a short, easy to understand tutorial explaining how to use archaic web 1.0 technology in place of an RSS feed to check for updates on my site. The best part is that there is no software to install and it requires only an additional mouse click or two. Step 1 This step may take place at anytime. To begin, open your web browser (this tutorial only covers Firefox but the process is similar for most browsers). Locate the menu which should be at the top left side of the browser window. Once you have located the menu, find the word "Bookmarks". This step is illustrated in figure 1.
Step 2 Click Bookmarks so the drop down menu appears. Find the the folder "Kick Ass Web Pages" you setup the first time you visited my site after realizing that if you were to ever run into anything this bad ass again you will need a separate folder to contain the awesomeness. This step is illustrated in figure 2.
Step 3 Once you have located said folder, simply place the mouse curser over it to reveal the kick ass websites you have saved. No matter how many kick ass sites you have saved, mine will always be on top. This is due to a phenomenon called the "Chuck Norris Effect" that my website has. Once you have located my site give it a good, manly click.
Step 4 So far you have only moved the mouse a few inches and have only clicked the little button twice. Not too bad. Your almost done. If you have followed the instructions carefully you should now be at my homepage. The design of my website is intended to seamlessly integrate the human interface with that of the idiot interface. Simply locate the "News and Updates" box conveniently located at the very top of the page and check for new content. If it is found that new content is present, simply click the link provided and enjoy!
1.) "Updates". This is to let the reader know that any and all updates will be posted here. 2.) This little guy tells you exactly what kind of update it is. 3.) The date is provided to let you know exactly when the update was added. 4.) Along with a link in the appropriate area of the site, a link also appears here in the update box to give you easy access to new content without having to load extra pages. Congratulations! You have just used archaic web 1.0 technology to check for updates on my site and all it took was one extra mouse click! I realize now how rough we had it back in the day. Just imagine the impact on the economy that saved mouse click has had. If you have read this and still think I should add an RSS feed then feel free to e-mail your request.....right before you hang yourself. -= Bagoda =- |
